Hi guys! It’s about time to cover one of our favorite topics: sweating. Yes. Sweating! We’re pretty lucky we were born and raised with a love for sports thanks to our sporty parents. Bali is the ideal place to get happy & healthy: from surf to yoga, beach runs to outdoor cross fit sessions, a game of tennis underneath the palm trees, it’s all here. And making your body happy after in your favorite health food cafe.
How to get a bikini body:
1. Have a body
2. Wear a bikini.
Tadaa: Bikini body!
Today on the blog we want to share with you something we’re incredibly excited about: we have been training with a personal trainer in Bali! We already train and surf everyday (more on these working out routines on the blog soon!), but we felt like we wanted to go the extra mile and have a better understanding about our body capacities, techniques and learn more about training in combination with healthy nutrition. SO: we found Fin! (*insert angel sound*). We followed her on Instagram for a while and heard many great stories from friends training with her.
The island as fitness studio
Fin is owner and head trainer at Evolution Fitness and offers in-house Personal training and Fitness retreats in Bali and Nusa Lembongan (read all about the retreats here on how to join). She specialises in PT in your own home at your own time, because the crazy Bali traffic jams going on these days, and busy schedules, it’s so nice when your trainer comes to your house (AND YES IT IS!). Most villas in Bali have an outside patio or garden, so she brings all the equipment and finds a creative way to turn each space into an outdoor fitness studio. Perfect if you live in Bali or visiting Bali for a few weeks and want to go home fit.
Start + Our first key take aways
We made a commitment to train with Fin for a month and started our first session last December with a fitness assessment. With body measurements, muscular endurance, flexibility, aerobic capacity tests and yup… photos. Luckily not to publish, but to privately save to keep track of results together with Fin :) Although we love the Kayla kinda thing, it’s nice to keep these photos to yourself, haha.
Our goals we’re mainly getting stronger, more fit, while having more energy. First advice from Fin to us was: sleep MORE. Due to a busy schedule we sleep only about 5-6 hours a night, getting up early birdie, but tired AF. Although we knew already, Fin explains again, sleep is the basic necessity to become fit and healthy and we need a minimum of 8 hours sleep every night. Work stress and working out puts high demands on your body, so we need extra zzzz as our body restores overnight. Fin also gave us amazing key take aways, personalised to our lifestyle and body measurements. Here is a short recap of the key take outs of the health food diet she made for us (NOTE: so these do not count for everyone!):
- Make sure your getting enough protein (I would recommend going for the sunwarrior to help you increase your levels since you are not eating meat)
- Lots of green leafy veggies, not too much complex carbs
- No fruit juices (only green juice and make sure it only has small about of fruit added for sweetness) and try to limit your quantities of fruit to one or two pieces a day and choose from the fruits with lower GI.
In the next weeks after the assessment we trained 2 to 3 times a week at the house we were staying. Usually split into a legs and bums day (on other words: can’t walk for two days after that kinda day), upper body day and full-body workout day. Fun sessions (not laughing of joy, more crying of muscle pain) but incredibly fun in the sense of our bodies and mind being challenged to the fullest. Each session included weights, dynamic movements, resistance training, flexibility exercises and… us firing a lot of questions to Fin :) Each session is 1 hour of training including a super good stretch at the end. Not the normal stretch you’re used to after a group class, but a proper session stretching out any tightness in the body.
Each training left us absolutely EXHAUSTED. In a good way! Always pushed to our limits, and going the extra mile, that when you train yourself you can’t reach. We loved the extra advice on what and when to eat after and a sweet text the next day how we felt. Results we’re amazing and already after a month of training we felt super fit, more flexible, toned and stronger!!
We’d love to take you with us on this journey and share more workout routines, progressions of training with Fin and other sweaty related topics with you on Instagram and the blog! Let us know if you have any questions or things you’d love to see or hear.
Here’s a few photos we took with our training with Fin at Villa Tanga in December and at our friends house. Also a little video in the edit, coming soon!
